The 3 C’s To Successful Content Curation

3 C's to Content Curation

Would you like to reap all the rewards of curating content?

Does curation feel like a social media buzz word to you?

If you are anything like me, when you first hear the term curation or content curation, you thought that it was a made up word. No really, I did! Fast forward to today and I love content curation and it is a big part of the articles I write.

Content curation is so much more that sharing someone else’s information. It is much more than quoting someone, or even directing your readers to another article. When curating, you never have to lose your voice or the direction you’ve intended for your blog. Not only that, but there is so many benefits that you can reap.

What a curator really should do is embrace content as both a maker and an organizer. – Steve Rosenbaum at Mashable.com

While I was doing research for this article, I stumbled across this great article about 5 Tips for Content Curation by Steve Rosenbaum at Mashable.com. One concept that I really love was what Steve calls the 3 C’s. These 3 C’s will provide your readers with quality content.

The 3 C’s can provide direction and substance when you are curating articles.

The 3 C’s to Content Curation

Create

Just because we are utilizing curation doesn’t mean that the creative juices stop. Whenever you are curating an article, make sure to add your own flare and create some content. You can do that by:

  • Write your intro
  • Adding on to the information you are curating from
  • Share a personal story that goes along with the information

Contribute

This C is all about welcoming your readers to add content. You can do this by:

  • Call-to-Actions or questions at the end of your post
  • Interact with your readers in the comments section. Don’t be afraid to continue the conversation by asking questions.
  • Use great comments as a platform for future blog posts.

Collect

Collecting is about stockpiling only the greatest and most informative links and articles for your readers. By doing this, you can greatly enhance your know, like and trust factor, winning the faith of your readers.

Using these 3 C’s will provide your blog with stellar content and also put your very own flare. That flare, along with solid content is what will attract and maintain your readers.

What have you done that has made the content that you’ve curated successful?

  1. I look at my stats to see what type of blog posts get the most shares and where. Then I try to duplicate the tone, the title or the subject to write another piece that’s complimentary and can be linked, too.

Thanks a lot for the article Christine, great points. I think it is important to educate people the correct way of doing things. For me content curation is one of the keys in this information era!

  3. Hi Christine,

Content curation, is fast becoming the buzz word of 2013. You are right what you say about keeping the creative juices flowing. It is important whilst sharing other peoples content that you also add you own spin to the mix. Content creation is great for finding new gems, learning, and building new relationships.

    Thanks for sharing,

    1. Beth,
I completely agree with you. You have to add your own spin on the content your are curating. If you don’t what is the point of reading your stuff when the reader can just read who you are curating from. Thank you for commenting.

  4. Hi Christine,

I liked your post about the 3C’s because it gives a better understanding of the value of content curation. For someone initially reading about content curation it would be easy to rush to the conclusion that you were not added value. However, this is not the case as the content curator can weave various articles into their commentary as you have done.
