Yes, you can be your boss’ hero.
I have written probably too much about how a blog can enhance your company’s Internet presence, build trust with your (future) clients, and make your company’s website Google’s favorite in the search engine. What I haven’t shared about is how blogging can be your company’s ‘in’ with new leads.
OK, so what do I mean by leads?
For those of us who were not marketing majors, I am referencing a sales lead, which is a way to bring in new customers. Did you know that blogging is a one of the best ways to bring in new leads or potential customers?
Hubspot and Social Media Examiner (my personal favorites) both weighed in on increasing your leads through your blog. Keep reading for my personal favorites tips.
3 quick, easy, and yes fun ways to increase your companies leads.
- Blog
We already know that blogging is one of the most cost effective ways to increase your online influence. (Read about why at The Secret to Growing Your Online Influence) While we know that blogging is great and all – it’s usually one of the first things to be set on the back burner when we are busy.I get it, I really do. However, by regularly offering free information to the public you are not only promoting your online influence, but you also increase your company’s leads – therefore getting a really great return on your investment. Blogging does this for you because it allows for your leads to have additional access to you and your products. Your readers can get to know you and your product. Soon, not only will they be buying your product, but they will also be telling their friends and colleagues about this amazing company. They will say, “See for yourself and check out their blog.”
- Offer Free Downloadable Info
Social Media Examiner had this to say about increasing your leads by offering free downloadable information,In exchange for all of these downloads, people must provide their name, email and additional information about their business. Free content is the perfect lead generator! The key to getting the right kind of leads with your free content is to create content that will attract your target customer base. You don’t want to capture just any subscriber—you want to capture someone who will want to learn more about your products and services.”
- Inspire Leads to Subscribe
Go ahead and transform your readers and leads into full fledged subscribers of your company’s blog. According to Hubspot,Convert leads who are casual blog readers into dedicated subscribers who keep coming back for more — so you can keep exposing them to and nurturing them with your content”.

Marilyn,
It help so much when they are easy to implement doesn’t it? Thanks for sharing.
I do all 3 of your suggestions but my main downfall has been to not be as consistent as I should be with putting fresh content on my blog. I know they say a minimum of 2 times a week but I just cannot seem to do 2 per week and even struggle to get one done each week. I am getting better though so I am improving.
Pat,
Have you consider just writing 1 article a week but making it a lengthy one? You are not alone, it is so hard to put fresh content out on a biweekly basis. I completely get where your coming from. If your interested check out this article I wrote back in March about How to Get Away With Writing One Article A Week and let me know what you think.
Great tips and thanks for sharing these resources. I’m in the process of developing a #2 – we’ll see :)!
Lisa,
How amazing that you are going to have downloadable information. Congratulations! Make sure to share it with us when you’re finished.
Christine, a question: in traditional marketing there was a way (even if a little fuzzy) of calculating the cost of generating a sales lead. How do you do that online, especially if you’re using blogging to generate the lead?
Sharon,
This is a great question and unfortunately there’s not an easy answer. After doing some research I found an article that should help shed some light on this topic. Calculate Your Cost Per Lead and Marketing ROI. Let me know what you think. Thanks for commenting. 🙂
