Search Engine Keyword Phrase Length

Spotlight on keyword phrasesHow many keywords do people use to search for a product or service on the Internet? This question is one that should be considered when natural search engine optimization is implemented on a website. The length of keywords in search term phrases that people use to find information on the Internet has increased.

One, two, three and four word phrases account for the majority of search term keyword phrases according to an analysis by Hitwise, an Experian company. Two word phrases came in at the most used with 23.47% with three word phrases slightly behind at 21.58% and one word searches at 20.47%. The pie chart below depicts U.S. click percentages by the number of keywords for the four week period that ended on February 29, 2009. Hitwise draws data from approximately 10 million U.S. Internet users.
