Yahoo and Facebook Strike Deal
Yahoo and Facebook have put together a deal that will allow Facebook users to log into Yahoo’s enormous array of sites with their FB user name and password. The integration is expected to open the door to the two top Internet online communities to enable people to stay in touch more effectively.
Facebook reached an important achievement with the partnership with their Facebook Connect service. The marriage with Yahoo will reportedly increase the social networking’s prominence. Gartner analyst, Ray Valdes, stated, “The social dimension is becoming a key part of the web experience. It’s no longer sufficient to connect to content, we also need to connect to people.”
Ethan Beard, director of Facebook Developer Network stated is quoted in Yahoo’s December 2, 2009 press release, Yahoo! Extends Facebook Integration to Bring Together Social Experiences From Across the Web:
“As one of the largest sites on the Web, Yahoo! is an ideal partner to integrate with Facebook Connect, enabling users to share meaningful content with their friends on Facebook from Yahoo’s wide range of category-leading properties.”
It has been surmised by some that Yahoo missed the boat when social networks were launching and is now determined to capitalize on social networking tools under Carol Bartz, Yahoo Chief Executive. Yahoo is expected to take the dive in the first half of 2010. The plan signifies Yahoo’s quest to reclaim the company’s former dominance.
How do you feel about this partnership? Do you think that you will be influenced by the integration?
