The Hero, The Wind and My Wings

The Hero

Do you have an incredible person in your life that was always there for you, and because they believed in you, you were able to reach your goals? Whether it was a career goal or a dream to start your own business, this special encourager cheered you on so that you felt empowered to run the race and finish it.

I have such a person, and this may be the hardest thing that I have ever written, but I am determined to write it. It has been written in my mind a thousand times and today is the perfect day.

The hero

Did you ever know that you’re my hero,
And everything I would like to be?

The person that has been this amazing hero is my first love, my dad. He is the one who taught me the value of working hard to reach my goals and to go the extra mile.

The Wind

I could fly higher than an eagle,
‘cause you are the wind beneath my wings

My dad’s gentle strength is a stellar example each and every day. He is a man of few words and has lived out his never give up work ethic teaching by example. He is always there to lend a hand or to simply be by my side when life throws its lightening. His encouragement by his actions have inspired me and lifted me to reach for my dreams.

My Wings

When I was young, I would have never imagined owning my own business. Like my father before me who also owned his own business, I took the challenge and entered into a new adventure that has been an incredible ride for thirteen years to date. He taught me how to fly.

You only go this way once

One of my dad’s favorite sayings is “you only go this way once”. This phrase was his gentle reminder to cherish each moment and to do your best not to miss a minute. His words ring in my mind as each day passes. You see, my dad is extremely ill and I do not know how much longer he will be with us.

I do know that each day with him is a gift and that I am who I am today because of the man and the father that he is. I will take the time to cherish each moment that I have with him, and I will tell him how much he means to me. And I will thank him once again for being the wind beneath this Robin’s wings.

It might have appeared to go unnoticed,
But I’ve got it all here in my heart.
I want you to know I know the truth, of course I know it.
I would be nothing without you

  6. Very sweet for you to put it all out there! It must be one of those weeks … my Media Barista challenge post was hard for me to write as well. I think it’s good that we be honest and pay tribute to those we love, though. 🙂

    1. It was a difficult one, Brooke, to put it all out there :-). Your Media Barista challenge about your sister, Lauren, and your work at the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation is absolutely touching and inspirational! I agree. It is a good thing to be honest and pay tribute to those we love.

I had a hard time getting through this one. I lost my Dad this summer, very unexpectedly. He had a way of making me feel like I could do anything, like I was GOOD at everything. I miss him so much. Glad you have a great dad, too and good for you for telling him so.
